LEARN ABOUT US
OUR MISSION
Ketch A Courier LLC is a premium on-demand package and goods pickup and delivery service focused on Revillagigedo Island, providing accessible, secure, trusted, and fast delivery anywhere across the road system, for a simple cost.
entrepreneur history
It all started like many businesses… wanting to provide a service that Ketchikan needed.
The Founders, Marie and Michael, are lifelong Alaskan residents and professional drivers who have always felt the need for a personal delivery service on our secluded Island
In 2020, as the world needed safe transportation of goods to reduce public contact, they acquired essential delivery skills by driving for major online delivery apps in Las Vegas
When they were finally able to return from the arid desert to their rainforest home in Southeast Alaska, they used those skills as professional drivers, and together they built a business that catered to the unique environment of their hometown
They started slowly with only a few orders per week, and as they gathered partners, they built a recognizable brand with a goal. Helping their neighbors. As they grew, they brought in contracted couriers to assist during busy times and ensure every order is provided the care it deserves
Their efforts to support businesses, citizens, and the local governments were recognized with a local award for “Entrepreneur of the Year 2022” by the Ward Cove Group and the Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce
They have experimented with various delivery services over the years, but have settled on the Personal On-Demand Pickup Courier and the Business Delivery Assistant Courier
logo and motto
Our FRESH NEW logo is a HAPPY HALIBUT swimming at a fast pace with bubbles flowing from the tail, positioned over an ORANGE RING
The HALIBUT is a fish famous in Southeast Alaska for waiting on the ocean floor for an opportunity to pass by, then snapping it up in a flash and taking care of it before settling back down to wait again. It symbolizes how our Couriers wait for an On-Demand order and ensure the job gets done as fast as possible
The ORANGE RING represents our favorite colors of a cloudy mountain sunset and the common orange maritime life preservers used locally. It symbolizes our main goal of universal support for the lifestyles of our rugged community, where mountains meet the ocean
The FORMLINE DESIGN of the halibut represents the traditional native and local cultures and customs here in Southeast Alaska, honoring the artistic community and the unique and complex art form.
To aid in the creation of our new logo, we put out a request for ideas, and within a day we were overwhelmed with responses. Three artists provided their personal halibut designs, which all became the inspiration for the final art: Elder James Edenshaw, young Professional Artist Elizabeth Anderson, and experienced Professional Artist Miilgm Ts’amtii.
James Edenshaw
James Edenshaw is an Elder and Artist who practices his skills in Metlakatla. He is currently sharing his work through his nephew, Benny Edenshaw, in Ketchikan, who collects requests for his personally tailored works.
This Halibut was created on 6-3-12, at a time when Alaskan Northwest Coast art was at the height of its modern revival. The bright, smiling expression and strong fin designs create a playful and fun character.
Elizabeth Anderson
Metlakatla. She has been doing Formline for 7 years. She produces art and sells it on her website esadesignsak.com, and her business page, Paintings by ESA (ESA Designs).
Her light and airy design, created to fit the shape of our special halibut logo, practically soars with an elegant centerline and upward searching gaze, pushed by a powerful tail.
“I believe that every piece should reflect your personal style. My commitment to quality, perfection, creativity, and my passion ensures that each product is unique. Whether it's for daily wear or special occasions, my design aims to uplift people with cultural pride.” (ESA Design website)
Miilgm Ts’amtii
Miilgm Ts’amtii/ Gitshishk’e/ Michael Jasson Milne Ts’msyen / Tlingit / Haida is a 27-year student of Northwest coast art. He has learned his art from the masters and mentors of our surrounding islands. He is currently apprenticing with Nathan Jackson in the Edwin C, Dewitt Carving shed in Saxman. His artwork can be found locally on clothing through my partnership with “Tsiin Designs”.
His colorful and refined contemporary Formline is designed to fit our special halibut logo, telling a story of a fast and determined fish, with a long gaze and flowing curves.
Presently, he is in the running for the Johnny Depp Artist Choice award. “The link is in my bio to vote DAILY for the next week (shameless plug for me), doing my best to represent Ketchikan, Alaska!” peoplesartist.org
“delivery culture”
Every business has a culture of expectations, and the “Delivery Culture” has faced many new challenges since the start of the decade, as it has slowly become a fundamental part of our personal lives
Revillagigedo Island has special requirements that make communication and transportation difficult for the residents, depending on the time of year, the extreme weather conditions, or just the personal needs of the population and visitors
We expect all orders to have a contact person or a satisfactory confirmation method at both their origin and destination locations to prevent liabilities or loss of goods
We expect businesses to honor their customers by preparing their orders at their agreed-upon time, with all the goods accounted for, and packaged properly, along with an itemized receipt of goods
We expect couriers to collect and verify they have received the correct order, and to transport it safely and quickly to the destination, with all necessary contact information required to ensure it is received
We expect customers and clients to provide accurate information to ensure delivery success, and to remain available for contact until the order has reached its destination successfully
We expect the public to recognize our couriers while doing their duty and to maintain respectful behaviors to support safe and healthy social interactions
vehicles
Every contract courier drives their own personal vehicles, which have ranged from a Razor ATV to a Ford Escape
The Owner and the Operations Manager operate the official Ketch A Courier logo-vehicles. These vehicles have changed a bit over the years
We started our business in 2021 with a black Pontiac Vibe
By 2022, we had added a white Subaru Legacy with a recognizable orange spoiler
In 2023, we upgraded to the latest fuel-efficient hybrid, acquiring two vehicles to replace our aged fleet, which doubled our MPG and guaranteed years of service
Our pearly-white Toyota Prius hybrid AWD hatchback is larger, and our only pet-friendly vehicle
Our gray Toyota Prius hybrid AWD was redesigned with a fresh sports-car look, which is often confused for a pure-electric car
